Twisted and Turned

Justin and I both became members of Weekly Shot over the past few weeks. Weekly Shot is an invite-only photo competition in which participants vote on a subject and then everyone submits photos and rates them. This week’s subject was trees, and I entered three shots, including this one. Of the 200+ entries, two of mine were selected as Features: this one, and >this old shot of a scrub oak on Catalina. Here is the link to the featured shots.
Today’s image, by the way, is from Canyonlands National Park. I was there last Thursday adventuring and taking pictures, and this is one of the results. This was taken near Green River overlook at Island in the Sky. I have hopefully 5+ pictures from this journey that I will use…
And today’s song of the day is Skeleton Key by Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s. Despite being a little poppy for my tastes, this song has been a favorite of mine lately. Echoing guitars, delicate strings, and pretty harmonies tell a story of mistreatment, regrets, and exasperated frustration. See lyrics “I did a horrible thing to that girl. I bred my misery and drowned it in her”, “My lack of loyalty swallowed her up”, and “I miss you less and less every day”, respectively. Interestingly, I can imagine The National presenting this song full of acerbic sarcasm, whereas Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s come across as justifiably confused. A quite enjoyable song from the album “The Dust of Retreat”.
