Ice Choked Trees

Another departure from Catalina. I took this in December at Bennett’s Pond, Ridgefield, CT. This was also during my haywire autofocus mirror period, so I had decided I was not going to post this photo because the trees are not in perfect focus. However, upon thumbing through my photos this week, I came across this and decided that the subject is so fantastic that I can deal with the slight misfocus. My apologies to you purists out there. This is actually a pond, and as a dam caused the water to rise, the pond choked out the trees. It freezes every year and creates one of the most fun places on the planet for ice skating or hockey. I’m going to go back next winter to get a perfect shot of it, because I’m not fully satisfied with this one. Misfocus-induced song of the moment: Wolf Parade - Lousy Photos from the Wolf Parade EP.

The amount of blue in the sky is really amazing. the number of different colors that are up there, and also below in the water - is really incredible. I also really enjoy how the trees stand out against the blue in the sky.
