End of the Line #2
Tully Rohrer
December 12th, 2006
This is another shot of the abadoned ore crusher south of Highway 62 near Placerville. I featured a shot from the western side on Friday, and I think I actually like this one more. It is such a cool structure, and it’s very apparent from this shot how the rail just abruptly ends with a few hundred foot drop off.
Well, we’re down to my top ten favorite songs of 2006! And we kick it off with a great one… Rarely do bands use reverb as effectively as Band of Horses. Ben Bridwell’s vocals cut through the ringing guitars with perfection, making Everything All the Time easily among the top five albums of the year. Realistically, almost any track from this album would be in my top ten tracks of 2006, but The First Song is the track I keep coming back to. The combination of sound from those guitars and Bridwell’s voice could fill the largest room with lush orchestration, leaving you with nearly 4 perfect minutes in which to get lost. While the lyrics are often indecipherable, it doesn’t really matter… You can at least understand the last line: “Do I know anyone? No, I don’t know anyone.” I can’t recommend this track and the whole album enough.
