End of the Line #3

While I took about 200 images of the ore crusher, this will be the last one I post. Considering I went with a monochrome treatment for the rest of the series, I’ll leave you with a color image.
I have a clearly-displayed fondness for nerdy, well-written independent music. Sufjan Stevens is a shining example, and one of Stevens’ comrades is Daniel Smith of the Danielson Famile, or now simply Danielson. Also much like Stevens, Smith is extremely religious, and these sentiments are often displayed more than the music itself. In the case of Ship the Majestic Suffix, however, Smith is just having fun with words. And somehow, he manages to make a silly song feel sweeping and epic. If you can get by Smith’s admittedly prepubescent voice, all of his 2006 LP Ships is energetic, triumphant, and ultimately absorbing (and much less religious than the rest of his catalog). Ships, in my opinion, is probably one of the top 3 releases of the year.
