Whales Make Loud Noises

This is the third image in a row featuring Katie toughing out the elements. We had some spectacular days kayaking in the Broken Group Islands, with humpback whales as our main source of company. The day I took this shot we saw two different humpbacks, one of which surfaced about 20 feet from Katie’s boat with a nice little moan accompanying the surprisingly loud blow. We then went on to see two dozen Steller sea lions, and then another humpback in no deeper than 20 feet of water. It was a pretty spectacular day, and solidified for good how incredible I thought the Broken Group Islands were. I can’t recommend a trip to that area enough - it quickly became one of my favorite places in the world!
Song of the Day: Wolf Parade - Grounds for Divorce
I post this song for the great lyric that applies to everyone stuck in a city: “You say you hate the sound of the buses on the ground. You say you hate the way they scrape their brakes all over town. I say, ‘Pretend it’s whales keeping their voices down.’” It’s a pretty awesome song, too, in addition to the lyric.
Wau… great perspective!
that looks like fun.
