Film Strip

Justin Gallagher

December 3rd, 2006

I took a walk around midtown in the late afternoon yesterday looking for photo opportunities. The problem with New York in December in the late afternoon is that the buildings block all of the good light. This is part of the reason that I usually end up taking pictures down by the river. Anyway, I did get a few shots that I liked, and this is one of them. The design of this building reminded me of a strip of film. I was hoping to be able to pull some more detail out of the reflections to get a more filmstrip-esque image. Nonetheless, I’m pleased with the result, particularly the oranges and blues, and the way they mix with each other.

Great eye for the beauty in the everyday. I think I prefer the softer, elusive reflections in the windows, adds a bit more mystery for me and keeps the mood muted and somber.

Keep up the great photographs of architecture. It’s really great when you see someone appreciating the smallest details and brings them to life. It’s incredibly inspiring.
