A Picture Perfect Evening

Catalina is such a beautiful place. I will never be able to show just how beautiful the island is through photographs - I’m just not good enough (case in point - this photo should be horizontal with less sky). Hopefully my photos of the landscape are just enough to pique your interest; enough to make you wonder if its beauty is worth exploring yourself.
It’s amazing how often I listen to Elliott Smith. As I scroll through my music library, I rarely can make it past his name. This is even more true when I have a week like the one I’m currently going through. Sweet Adeline sets the mood for the album XO with gentle acoustics that explode into perfect vocal harmonies. I was listening to the last verse of this song when I took this picture.
Tomorrow Tomorrow is another one of my favorite Elliott Smith songs. I’m not sure if it’s his way with words or the song itself, but everything about this song fits me and my thoughts. In this track, he plays using only the high strings on a 12-string guitar (as in he removed the octave-down strings) and accompanies the bare sound with layer upon layer of his incredible voice. Such brilliance.
