Grungy Fountain

So, happy new year to y’all. What better way to ring in the new year than with a picture of a nasty water fountain in Central Park, right? Actually though, I think this is a good image for me to start the new year with, and here’s why…
While I was buying new sheets with Jess in Bloomingdale’s the other day, I was checking out the photography displayed around the store, and along the escalators. A bunch of it is actually pretty damn good, and the shots along one escalator in particular had a really cool grungy, angled, contrast-y style. I’ve Googled to figure out who the photographer was, but have had no luck yet. Anyway, looking at these led me to my four photography related new year’s resolutions for ’08. Who knew Bloomingdale’s could be so inspirational? Today’s image represents my first attempt to mimic that cool style from the escalator. I’m fairly pleased with the results, so I’m sure there’ll be more to come.
Photography Resolutions - 2008
- Keep taking lots of pictures, more even than this past year. I took around 3,000 pictures this year, which actually isn’t as many as I thought. I took 4,500 in 2006, so shame on me!
- Look at good photography, figure out why it’s good, and learn from it.
- Process with a purpose.
- Shoot things that I wouldn’t normally shoot, and try compositions that I wouldn’t normally try.
What are everyone else’s resolutions, photography related or otherwise?
Good resolutions. Don’t forget about th International Center for Photograghy in NYC. Good place to look a good photoghraghy.
I agree - I need to take more pictures and also go out beyond my typical style. My non-photography resolution is to read more books - I didn’t set nearly enough time aside to read this year. Great job with this image - a good one to kick the year off with!
