Dead Fingers to the Sky

This might be the coolest looking grove of trees I’ve ever seen. I took this on the way back from surfing at Shark Harbor on the “back side” (west coast) of Catalina Island. This tree is in a very “Lord of the Rings”-esque grove of dead scrub oaks. Right now, with the rainy season leaving the grass green, I thought I would like this as a color. It’s much more striking in black and white, however. I need to go back and spend an afternoon shooting just this grove of trees… this shot in no way does it justice.
fantastic tones and vibe here. love the contrast and that dark sky.
Oh, Tulls! I love this one! It really looks like it could have been taken from an old horror flick set.
Talk about a tree of Gondor.
brilliant light and sky!
i grew up on the island, and am now–regrettebly–landlocked in colorado. this grove of trees is my favorite on the whole island, and i love what you said about it reminding you of lord of the rings, because my friends in junior high used to make fun of me for saying that exact thing. thanks for taking this picture and making my day.
amazing scenery and light. … and you’re probably right … b&w was the right choice ;)
