Canyonlands Revisited

Another from the Canyonlands series. I will admit that this composition doesn’t feel balanced to me, so it actually makes my jaw clench uploading this photo. The colors, however, make it all worthwhile.

Just over a month ago I posted the first image in this series and I also posted on Margot and the Nuclear So and So’s. Since then, I’ve become more and more impressed with their debut album The Dust of Retreat. Dress Me Like A Clown is a beautiful ode to dysfunctional relationships, and I think I’d be hooked by the “da das” in the final chorus alone. Named after Gwyneth Paltrow’s character (Margot) from The Royal Tenenbaum’s, this is a band that utilizes two drummers, two guitarists, a bassist, a keys player, a violinist, and some lap steel, glockenspiel, theremin, and melodica thrown in for good measure. This octet has been low on my radar for a long time, but is steadly working its way up with its chamber pop sound and layered production. The Dust of Retreat = Highly Recommended.

Cool effect the sunlight and the shadows in the canyons make. You’re right the colors are WILD!

Beautifully shot! That’s one of my favorite areas that I wish I had more time to get back to more frequently. I agree with you about the composition though. It kinda feels cut in half. If I were to crop it I might say sacrifice some of the sky. But it still looks stunning!
